Rent to Buy is a lease agreement that allows you to drive a brand-new car while making fixed weekly payments, with the option to buy the vehicle for $1 at the end of the contract. Approval is based on affordability and ABN status.
To apply for Rent to Buy with Auto Ownit, you need:
- An ABN (Australian Business Number)
- A steady income
- A valid driver’s license (Australian or International)
Auto Ownit offers a wide range of brand-new vehicles, including cars, vans, utes, motorcycles, and trucks, from brands such as Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda, BYD, Chery, and Hyundai, among others. If you don’t see the make or model you want listed on the website, you can request a specific vehicle and receive a custom quote.
Auto Ownit mainly offers brand-new vehicles, but a limited number of previously owned vehicles are also available. Check current availability on the Vehicles page.
Registration is included in your weekly payments (fees vary by state or territory). Maintenance and insurance are the client’s responsibility. You can arrange your own cover or opt in to Auto Ownit’s Damage Cover for added protection.
Yes. Besides registration, insurance, and maintenance (see above), there’s a government transfer fee at the end of the contract when you transfer the vehicle to your name. A few other charges may apply in certain cases, including an excess-kilometre charge, administration fees or interest on late payments (10% p.a.).
Weekly payments depend on the vehicle, the initial deposit, and the length of the contract. As a reference, a brand new car can start from $178 per week, inclusive of GST. You can browse vehicles and payment plans on the homepage, or request a quote for a specific make and model.
If you’re unable to make a payment, contact Auto Ownit as soon as possible to discuss your options. Each situation is assessed individually to find a fair solution for both parties.
The agreement runs for the full term you choose. If you need to end it early, you can ask us in writing, and we’ll assess your request. Conditions and costs apply.
